Learn About Our Project:
***UPDATE: New Stretch Goals Unlocked - DLC BLACK, anodizing colors, and brass ball bearing option!***
After 3 successful Kickstarter projects, we're returning to our Kickstarter family with another bottle opener design, this time with a playful new 'spin' on the concept...
A collaborative effort between Pangea Designs and Wilmont Grinders, The Beertop Delta combines the whimsically entertaining nature of a spinning top with the handiness of a keyring bottle opener. The hexagonal holes are even designed to fit 3/8" and 10mm. Each Beertop Delta is constructed of a Titanium frame, and a permanently press-fit steel ball bearing.
Spinning tops are perhaps the oldest toy known to man. The playful manner in which they dance and twirl has mesmerized us for millennia. They have even been scientifically shown to reduce stress and inspire creative thinking. Whether you use it to unclog your mind at work, or simply pass the time and occupy your hands while you wait for the next round from the bartender, the Beertop Delta is sure to entertain no matter your age. And of course, if you're able to use it to simultaneously open a cold one, the experience is enhanced even further.
Every Day Carry:
We designed the Beertop Delta to be taken with you. Either slipped in a pocket, or attached to a keyring, the Beertop Delta will keep you be prepared for impromptu spinning sessions after hours behind a desk, or a quick spinning competition while you're out with your friends.
Last year, Wilmont Grinders, a NC custom knife and tool maker, introduced the original Beertop, a 6 pointed star shaped spinning top with a ball bearing pressed into the center, and the ability to open a bottle. Admiring the innovation behind the concept, we contacted Wilmont Grinders, and commissioned them to make a small batch of our own completely new design for Pangea Designs. After completely overhauling the aesthetic, and adding some extra functionality, we introduced this different take on the Beertop to our Instagram followers as the "Delta", which then sold out within hours.
The Beertop Delta will be manufactured here in the USA, and will be constructed of a Titanium frame, and a permanently press fit ball bearing. The titanium frames will be CNC waterjet cut here in the USA from Grade 5 Titanium. These will then be hand finished and hand assembled here in NC by Pangea Designs and Wilmont Grinders. This includes finishing, reaming/fitting the ball bearing, anodizing, etc.
Our base model Beertop Delta features a stonewashed Titanium Frame, and chrome steel ball bearing. Other materials and color combinations may be unlocked as funding progresses! To add multiple items, just add the amount of each item to your pledge total.
Frame - Color Anodizing: Using electrical current and a phosphate solution, a thin oxide layer can be made to form on titanium. Different voltages create varying thicknesses of oxide layers, which correspond to different colors across the spectrum. The anodizing layer is very thin, and while it is possible to wear through it, it is a very durable finish that develops character with time.
Frame - Black DLC Coating: Diamond-like coating, or DLC, is a nanocomposite coating that has unique properties of natural diamond, particularly its hardness and wear resistance. The black appearance looks wonderful with both steel or brass bearings.
Chrome Steel Ball: Our standard ball bearing material is simple and practical. It is attractive, durable, and functional.
Brass Ball: Available as a $5 upgrade to any pledge tier, brass offers a unique 'golden' appearance. Prone to patina, many prefer the unique character that brass develops with time. It is also softer than steel, and may become scuffed if spun on rough surfaces.
Tungsten Carbide Ball: Similar in appearance to steel, but twice as heavy. Measuring a 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, it is extremely scratch and corrosion resistant, making it an excellent choice for those who are rough with their toys.
Late June - Kickstarter fundeing period closes, production begins
